NS launches RM1.5 mil death benefit scheme to help 34,562 poor families

The families stand to gain RM2,000 for the death of a head of family, and a higher amount of RM6,000 for sudden death caused by an accident.

SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan government has launched its Death Benefit Takaful (Takaful Khairat Kematian) scheme that is set to benefit some 34,562 poor families in the state.

The scheme – first in the state – was originally announced in the state’s Budget 2021.

Menteri Besar YAB Dato’ Seri Aminuddin Harun, speaking to reporters after chairing the state exco virtual meeting yesterday, said the state has allocated RM1.5 million as coverage for an estimated 34,562 heads of families as listed on e-Kasih Negeri Sembilan.

The payouts will be given in the next 12 months from Aug 1, 2021.

“The contributions will be made in phases, and it will provide additional protection to the wife of the deceased head of family, and two children under the age of 18.

“This scheme will allow the family to receive emergency funding of RM2,000 upon the death of the head of a family,” said Aminuddin.

He added that the Pakatan Harapan administration launched the scheme to show that it was sympathetic and cared for the poor families in the state.

“We want to help lessen the burden of families suffering from deaths.

“This scheme is open to everyone in Negeri Sembilan, regardless of race and religion,” he added.

Higher payout for deaths by accident

The scheme also covers sudden deaths caused by accidents.

In such cases, Aminuddin said the scheme will payout RM6,000 to the bereaved family.

The scheme will be implemented by the Menteri Besar’s Office and the Negeri Sembilan Religious Affairs Department.

“A trust account is being set up for the purposes of collecting and paying out under this scheme,” he said.

Aminuddin said the state welcomed financial contributions from the members of the public, private companies and other interested parties for this scheme.

Contributions can be channeled to ‘Bendahari Negeri, Negeri Sembilan’ at CIMB bank account 8004433398, by stating ‘Khairat Kematian’ as reference.
